With the windy weather and change of season coming now, it’s very easy to catch colds. In the last Blog we discussed the best diet to prevent lingering coughs this winter. Is there anything you can do to prevent colds from happening in the first place? Absolutely! If you have a child who goes to childcare or school, work in an air-conditioned office or hang around people sneezing and coughing, you might want to watch out for cross infection. A few handy tips to prevent colds can go a long way.
10 Ways That May Reduce The Risk of Catching Colds & Coughs
- Wash hands frequently, especially before you eat. Think how often you touch your phone, keyboard and iPads & how often they are cleaned (not)!
- Wear a mask. It really makes a difference! Just ask the Asians.
- Boil vinegar. Germs in the air don’t like the smell of vinegar .
- Burn moxa. This is a herb that goes with acupuncture that repels germs.
- Keep windows open. Bring in the fresh air and let the germs out.
- Warm showers. Promote a little sweating to ‘sweat out’ the cold.
- Sleep. No treatment will work unless you let your body rest and recuperate.
- Keep warm, especially the neck and the feet. The Wind Gate (acupuncture point) is sitting in the back of the neck. The Kidney channel, our reserve system, begins in the bottom of the feet.
- Keep active. Keep the circulation and lymphatic drainage efficient.
- Sunlight. Nature’s free way of boosting your immune system with vitamin D.
